Veteran Service Recognition
The Veteran Service Recognition Award provides Councils and every organization within the Masonic Family with a distinguished opportunity to thank those who have honorably served in the armed forces of their nation.
It allows Cryptic Masons to reach to and through the Lodge while demonstrating that Freemasonry never forgets those who answered the call of duty and, in the words often associated with military service, “wrote a blank check” to preserve their country.

A Tribute to Service and Sacrifice
The Veteran Service Recognition Award enables Lodges, Councils, Chapters, Commanderies, Eastern Star Chapters, youth organizations, and other Masonic Family bodies to publicly recognize deserving veterans while strengthening relationships within their communities.
It serves as both an expression of gratitude and a reminder that the freedoms enjoyed by future generations have been preserved through the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of those who served.
Presented Throughout the Masonic Family
This recognition may be presented by any participating Masonic Family organization to an eligible veteran. Whether the recipient is a Mason or not, the award reflects the appreciation of Cryptic Masonry and honors faithful military service.
The Symbolism of the Medal
The Cryptic Mason Veteran Service Recognition Award is rich in symbolism, honoring military service while simultaneously displaying the character and teachings of Cryptic Masonry.
The Broken Triangle
At the center appears the title “Veteran” together with the Broken Triangle emblem from the Seal. This refers to the Cryptic Degrees while also alluding to the truth that “all give some, but some gave all.”
Twenty Seven Stars
A golden ring of 27 stars represents the twenty seven who were chosen to work in the Secret Vault and symbolizes selfless service for the benefit of mankind.
Nine Silver Trowels
The surrounding nine pointed star is composed of nine silver trowels, representing the Nine Arches of Cryptic Masonry and the spreading of that mystic cement which unites us as a band of Brothers.
Laurel Leaves
The laurel leaves signify that this award comes from the General Grand Council and represent the laurel leaves of victory, honor, and faithful service.
